"Well then… I've told you my codename and shown you my face, let's have yours, hmm?" "Turmoil" was still debating on whether or not to tell him her civilian name, Krysta.

Wufei supposed that he owed her that much, though he didn't entirely trust her. Little did he know that the feeling was mutual. "Very well... My codename is 'Nataku'," he said as he removed his own mask.

She arched an eyebrow at that, amusement creeping upon her face again. "'Nataku'? Hang on, isn't that a girl's name?"

He immediately grew flustered. "Well, yes, but-"

Her amusement grew as she started laughing. "You've got a codename like that, yet you have the nerve to think the Order was wrong for choosing a girl?! HA! They might as well have called you 'Fluffy'!"

Wufei started at that, growing angrier by the second. While she couldn't have possibly known the reason behind his choice of codename, she didn't have to throw the hypocrisy in his face. "Why you-!"

"'Fluffy the Firebender', I love it!" she cackled as she snapped open her fans.

"Stop calling me that!!!"

Another piece of gift art for Mendeia’s "Tears of Revelry" GW/A:TLA crossover, though this one involves a hypothetical scenario where my OC, Krysta (codenamed "Turmoil"), exists in a parallel version of the ToR universe and meets that universe’s Wufei. In my own fanfics, I’ve generally portrayed their relationship as somewhat akin to that of Colleen and Blitz from "Road Rovers" in that she enjoys driving him crazy and calls him "Fluffy". Hell, I’ve always imagined her with a younger version of Colleen's voice. I couldn't resist adapting the nickname joke into this AU.

While reading ToR, I couldn’t help but ponder how Krysta (and by association, her twin brother Kayle) might fit into that alternate universe, and gradually adapted their backstory. Here, she’s an unofficial Kyoshi Warrior who grew up in one of the multi-cultural independent cities (the equivalent of the space colonies). Her mother, who trained her, was a Kyoshi Warrior named Nisu who fell in love with and married a non-bender named Ri-yan of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom heritage.

But Nisu and Ri-yan died trying to defend their home and neighbors from an attack meant to take out Sifu Kiyu of the White Lotus, who survived and disappeared from the public eye. Homeless, the twins took to the streets, but were eventually taken in by Kiyu, who was also an old friend of their father's.

Travel restrictions have kept Krysta from going to Kyoshi Island to complete her training, which she still longs to do. The fact that she has the generic headband seen in "The Warriors of Kyoshi" symbolizes this. She has a few scrolls and items salvaged from their old home, and supplemented her skills with sword training from Sifu Kiyu.

But instead of them being trained to be this universe's Gundam Boys' allies, the twins were meant to be a chi-blocking countermeasure, as Kiyu doesn’t trust the scientists' counterparts. With good reason too, but that's spoiler territory.

Notes:

The above ficlet is actually a tail-end snippet from an "in media res" one-shot I came up with to go with this pic. But it was getting long, so I put the most relevant part here. I chose to put their respective masks on the ground, as if they were temporarily discarded.

As with Duo in "Puppet Master Shinigami", I took some artistic license with Wufei's outfit and mask since they were only described as white and having the Sun Warrior’s symbol, respectively. His clothes are an amalgamation of his GW pants, shoes, and gauntlets plus a longcoat like the students wore in Book 3 and a Sun Warrior mantle. I figured a dragon mask fit Wufei rather well, and the horns are modeled after his Gundam's crown.

Krysta's mask, on the other hand, is a nod to her other incarnations' split-personality, which isn't that much of an issue here. Though ironically, it also resembles the mask baddie Phanto from SMB 2. Her outfit is a slight variation on the traditional Kyoshi Warrior uniform because she had to make do with what she could get outside of the island.

"Tears of Revelry" and the concept of Wufei as a firebender belong to Mendeia.
Krysta/"Turmoil" belongs to me.
